We still have the warm and fuzzies from a family-filled Thanksgiving in Connecticut with my husband’s family.  It was just the thing we needed to put us in the right frame of mind for the holiday season.  NYC street corners have already been commandeered by the Christmas Tree hawkers and the tourist/shoppers are filling the sidewalks with a steady flow. It’s all happening… and it’s not even December yet.

Are we all just type-A eager beavers or perhaps we are just looking for something positive and happy to concentrate on?  Sometimes it seems like the world can’t get a hold of itself.  Suffering and misery seems more commonplace than investment and growth.  The current caustic political environment hangs heavy over all of us at a time when we should be thinking most about how to help one another.  Let’s not forget about each other this holiday season. Connecting with and treasuring loved ones is always the most appreciated gift.

So in the spirit, here is a little glimpse into our family Thanksgiving bliss. Post appetizers but pre-turkey we headed to a local park.  We said it was for Emma of course, but I think we all had a lot of fun being together in a rare moment of Norman Rockwell idyllic perfection.

So it’s my favorite day of the week again! Whew, thank goodness.  This week was all about capturing the ease and simple contentment of childhood.  There is a certain joie de vivre in the way she holds her favorite snuggle items and the way she looks into the camera with an unabashed directness. When we let our guard down is when we truly shine.

This week has been a big one for everyone in the path of Superstorm Sandy. Here in NYC we are still putting ourselves back together.  With half of Manhattan without power and the boroughs in even worse trouble, there seems to be a lot of devastation every where we look.  We stayed inside this week for our official photo shoot but our hearts and thoughts are with all of our neighbors near and far who are struggling to recoup and recover post storm.  Here is our beloved darling in a dress gifted to us from my loving mother from our new most favorite children’s brand, Hartstrings.

Buzz! Buzz! went the door bell this week.  It was a package from my mother-in-law with a book and doll set entitled “The Ladybug Girl”.  It’s just the sweetest story of a little girl (dressed as a ladybug) and the adventures she has in her own backyard. It was a great way to get Emma excited about her costume.  Here is our real life Ladybug Girl…  I hope everyone has a very happy Halloween Weekend.

The amazing shoes were a gift from my mother because “every girl should have a pair of red shoes!”  I concur. and it doesn’t hurt if they sparkle.

It rained on us much harder today than I first expected.   Even though we were dressed for the occasion, I still found myself pushing the stroller under storefront awnings for some relief.  The windy rains did give way to a light drizzle which gave Emma a chance to get out and polka-dot up the streets.

We’ve been on vacation for the last week in Cape Cod, Massachusetts staying in my mother-in-law’s awesome house on the coast.  Of course traveling with a toddler has its challenges…”no please don’t go there!…. no please don’t do that!… no please don’t climb that!”… but mostly we had a blast introducing her to all the beachy things we love. Here’s a mix of vacation photos and Emma Rose beauties. I included a photo of her on the beach freakin’ out about the sand moving under her feet just because its kind of cute that she’s so scared. so darn cute.

Whew, we made it through another week! 🙂 It was a busy one for us, so today I really wanted to dial down the intensity and seek comfort in the most relaxing setting I know, the Central Park Conservatory Garden.  I packed up some strawberries, Emma’s major fave right now, and off we went.  The weather is absolutely gorgeous today:  not too hot, not too cold, a slight breeze, and a bright sun. I cherish these days with my baby girl as the special gift that they are.  I hope everyone gets to visit their special place with their special someone this weekend. Enjoy and love.

New York Public Libraries seem to have taken on the mystical properties of living relics.  I often wonder if paper is a luxury of a time past when our consumption of resources wasn’t such an issue. In my heart, I love paper.  I love to read printed materials and get satisfaction as each page is turned.  Digital photography mandates I spend long hours staring at a computer screen, so I relished the chance to take Emma to one of the last bastions of paper! The library! We are lucky enough to have a Public Library right on 96th street between Lexington and Park avenues.

It proved to be a wonderfully enriching experience which I plan to repeat again and again.  Emma had a blast picking out books to read; one at a time of course. It was fun to see her peruse the Children’s section as any of us would in a room with books on shelves stacked twice her height. Save Barnes & Noble for special occasions and go visit your public library today!

This week went super fast thanks to all the Rosh Hashanah celebrations. It was wonderful to spend quality time with many of our family members we don’t get a chance to see all that often. Happy New Year!

This morning Emma took it upon herself to draw a picture with a nearby pen and paper and give it to me as a gift.  I was stunned.  I have spent the majority of the summer reinforcing her gross motor skills as we run around the City going from park playground to park playground.  I had always planned more of the fine motor skill lessons for the winter when we’ll be stuck inside but I was delighted to see her getting an early start.  Her attention span doesn’t last that long but she really took delight in the Crayola “Write Start” pencils I bought at Staples this morning.
